FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

British Cyclist to Ride 35,000km Around the World to Protect Nature

Departure Date: 26 April 2026

A British former commercial lawyer and amateur cyclist, Simon Jones, is set to embark on an extraordinary 35,000-kilometre journey around the globe, aiming to raise funds to protect 10,000 acres of threatened wildlife habitat.

Simon recently quit his hectic corporate job and is getting away from his desk to embark on an epic adventure to help protect our planet. Setting off from the village of Thakeham in West Sussex, England on 26 April 2026 (his 46th birthday!), Simon will cycle across multiple continents and climb a mountain on each one, combining extreme physical challenge with a clear environmental mission. The expedition is in support of World Land Trust, an international conservation charity that works with local partners to purchase and protect threatened ecosystems.

With biodiversity loss and climate change accelerating worldwide, the campaign highlights a simple but powerful solution: £100 can fund the permanent protection of (on average) one acre of threatened land. The goal is to raise £1 million—enough to safeguard 10,000 acres of vital habitat.

Protecting nature can sometimes feel overwhelming,” said Simon. “But the World Land Trust offers a direct and effective way to make a difference. If this journey inspires people to protect a single acre, it will be worth every mile.”

The route will span Europe, Asia, Oceania and South America with mountain ascents planned on each continent to symbolize both the scale of the challenge and the urgency of global conservation efforts.

Simon will also be visiting World Land Trust conservation projects en route to further highlight the issue and the effective solution being provided by World Land Trust.

Simon will see firsthand how climate change, habitat loss and the fragmentation of wild places are affecting the natural world. His decision to take on such an immense challenge reflects both the urgency of the crisis and his determination to help protect what remains. By shining a light on our work throughout his journey, he is showing people everywhere that safeguarding vital habitat is not only possible but essential for the future of wildlife and communities alike” Dan Bradbury, Director of Brand and Communications, World Land Trust.

World Land Trust, supported by renowned naturalist Sir David Attenborough, has now helped protect more than 3 million acres of biologically important habitat across the world. By working with trusted local conservation partners, WLT ensures that land is protected permanently, benefiting wildlife, local communities, and the global climate.
